Topic Overview

The 2007 film Sicko began a dialogue in the United States about whether every person should have access to affordable healthcare. Currently 45 million Americans are without health insurance, a number that has been climbing since the 1980s. Healthcare has become an important issue with many political candidates proposing varying plans for government based healthcare to more affordable private insurance. Research on this topic can focus on issues ranging from universal access (both US and international) and rising costs, to the nursing shortage and elderly care.
