Item formats and how to search for them
The Library has items in just about every format imaginable. The easiest way to target your search is to use Quick Search > Quick Limit option to choose a format. Alternately, you can do an Advanced Search and choose "More Limits" and select a format.
Books and Periodicals
To search for books or periodicals when you already know the title, use the Quick Limit to selet the appropriate format, and then under Search by select the corresponding Start of Title option:

Scores (full, parts, miniature, vocal)
If you were looking for a score (or score and parts) of a Brahms quartet, a very basic version of your search might look like this:

If you wanted to better your chances of getting scores with parts in your search results, a basic version of your search might look like this (although also adding the composer is a better idea!):

If you are looking for a miniature score, a quick (but not perfect) way to do this would look like:

If you want a vocal score (just the voice parts and orchestra reduced to piano) you can do one of two things. A very basic (and again, not perfect) way is to search like this:

Or, if you want a narrower set of results, search like this:

Recordings (CDs, LPs)
To limit your search to CDs, add "and digital" to your search. This is not fool-proof, but helps eliminate most of the LPs from the results list.
NB: A note about call numbers: CDISC before a call number means it's a CD; DISC before the call number means it's an LP.
