Topic Overview
Although the Supreme Court's Roe v. Wade decision in 1973 gave women a constitutional right to have an abortion during most of pregnancy, the abortion debate continues. Anti-abortion groups (or the pro-life movement) encourage the government to regulate abortion practices. Abortion rights advocates (or the pro-choice movement) argue that such actions undercut and threaten reproductive rights. With political, religious, moral, medical, and legal aspects, abortion is a controversial and complex issue.
