Topic Overview

The terrorist attacks of September 11 as well as the recent anthrax cases have resulted in an increased concern over the threat of chemical and biological agents. Toxic chemical compounds and biological agents are of special concern because they can be composed of fairly easily acquired raw materials that often have legitimate uses or occur naturally. Variations on this topic include the history of biological/chemical warfare, measures to control their proliferation (including domestic and international laws and public health safety policies), and the technologies used for and against such attacks.
