Topic Overview
The No Child Left Behind Act (also known as the NCLB or NCLB Act) was passed by President George W. Bush in 2001. NCLB’s general aims are to improve the performance of failing public schools while ensuring that no child is confined to a failing school. However, there is much debate over NCLB’s system of accountability, its level of funding, its emphasis on standardized testing, and its system of rewards and sanctions.
