Topic Overview
According to American Decades “A rash of gun violence in seemingly 'safe' suburban schools around the country indicated that violence was not just an urban problem” (183). While most severe acts of violence in schools are attributed to gangs (CQ Researcher), other forms of violence, including severe bullying, hazing, and school shootings, have grown more prevalent in public school settings. In attempts to get at the root of this wide-spread problem, "experts" have blamed several sources, including violent video games and movies, bullies, slack parenting, lack of religion, loose gun control, and inadequacies of the educational system.
