Suggested reference sources

  • CQ Researcher Online Research Resources This source presents an analysis of issues in the news in a non-biased way. The September 24, 2004 issue (volume 14, number 33) contains an article on social security reform detailing the problem and possible solutions.
  • Editorials on File Q070 Ed 46 Editorials on File is a bi-monty newspaper survey. It is an objective compilation of editorial opinions from over 150 North American newspapers. This source would provide both sides of an issue. The Undergraduate Library has every issue from 1970-2005. The 2004 and 2005 editions have many editorials on Social Security reform. This source may be a good way to familiarize oneself with the different aspects of the issue.
  • Encyclopedia of Social Welfare History in North America Q 361.9703 En 192 This book is an attempt to bring together the history of social welfare in the United States, Mexico, and Canada. There is an article on the history of social security in the United States.
  • Social Welfare: Help or Hindrance? 361.973021 This book is more concerned with Welfare programs, but there is some mention of Social Security. It could be a helpful background source.
