A few tips regarding the library catalog.
1. Know your limits. Search limits that is--limit by format (score, recording, film, language, date, etc. These are "sticky"--once you set them they persist until you clear them.
2. Boolean and advanced search. These are your friends. "Brahms and viola and sonat?" or maybe "(cello or violoncello) and sonat?"

3. Pluralize, pluralize. Uniform titles and subject headings usually use the plural form of a word--symphonies, scores, settings, etc. You can also approach this with truncation. Don't know whether the score you are looking for contains one symphony, two sinfonia, or three symphonien? Use symphon? instead. Same for sonat? and quartet?, etc.
4. Subject headings. To books about a topic, you can search within the subject headings, which is somewhat more precise than just searching for words anywhere in the item's catalog record.
Some subject headings that will be useful:
- Music instruction and study
- Music in education
- School music instruction and study
To do a subject search and you know the exact subject heading already, choose "subject headings" in the "Search by" list:

If you don't know the exact subject heading, you can do a boolean or 'any word anywhere' search until you find an item that looks promising and then following its subject headings. Or, you can do an advanced search for words within the subject headings:
