The USPTO has searchable databases for both for patents and trademarks. Provides full text for patents issued from 1976 to the present and full-page TIFF images for all patents from 1790 to the present. Use the "How to..." sections to learn the best search strategies for the databases. While they are rich in content, one can also get lost or receive many "false" hits. The Grainger Library also has links to other patent sites.
