Statistical Information

Statistical information can be found in many sources, both print and online. Given the necessary time for a book to come to press the most recent information is likely to be found online. Note, as well, statistical sources cited in background and reference sources you consult. See if you can locate more recent versions of these.

Online Statistical Sources

  • Statistical Universe (Lexis-Nexis) - Provides government statistics, business, trade, and research information, and private and international statistical information. U.S. government statistics go back to 1973 and private and state sources go back to 1980.
  • National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) – A division of the Department of Education that publishes a number of statistical resources including the Digest of Education Statistics, Education Statistics Quarterly, the annual Condition of Education, and Projections of Education Statistics to 2013.

Opinion polls are a resource for gathering public response to various issues. Please note how the polls were conducted as this will provide a better understanding of the information presented.

  • Roper Center Collection – Roper Center is an archive of public opinion data collected from surveys and polls performed by groups such as Gallup, Roper, New York Times, Wall Street Journal and more. The public opinion data covers "politics and government, public institutions, international relations, business, social affairs and consumer behavior and preferences."
