Topic Overview
Since its establishment in 1787, the American presidency has been a constantly evolving office. As each era has brought about new challenges, from war, to economic hardship, to advances in technology, to terrorism, the powers of the president have fluctuated. While it is difficult to generalize about the American presidency, some aspects, such as the length of the term in office, do remain constant, while others, such as executive power, vary with each presidency.
