  • Icons of Hip Hop: an Encyclopedia of the Movement, Music, and Culture (2007) - Call Number: 782.42164903 *This title begins with a timeline of Hip Hop History and provides profiles of famous hip hop artists such as Grandmaster Flash, Public Enemy, the Geto Boys, Dr. Dre, Lil Kim, Kanye West, and Jay-Z among many others.
  • The Greenwood Encyclopedia of Rock History 6 vol. (2006) - Call Number: 781.6609 G856 *Looks at the evolution of rock music and various movements in rock history including the grunge era, improv/jam band music scene, riot girls, commercial rock, metal, and punk among others. Index informs on a wide range of music-related issues situated within each time period.
  • Violence and the Media (1996) - Call Number: 303.6 N482V *This little gem provides information about violence as manifest in many forms throughout history. See the section titled “Violent Themes in Popular Music and Video Games: Old Wine in New Bottles.”
  • Violence in America (1999) - Call Number: Q. 303.6097303 V812 *A nearly comprehensive account of the major representations of violence in America, with entries on violence in music. Don’t forget to check the index at the end of this book to locate specific entries!
