There is no shortage of resources for the study of gender and democracy in Russia, the other former Soviet states, and neighboring countries since the collapse of state socialism in the region in 1991. Earlier periods can also be thoroughly researched using resources available at the University of Illinois Library. However, for any particular topic, the researcher's needs and the attendant challenges may vary. This guide is an attempt to give a broad sense of the kinds of resources that are available, highlighting those that are of particular use for a broad range of scholarly pursuits, and to outline various strategies for using these resources effectively.
