Bus service

CU MTD serivce

Did you know your OLLI i-card allows you to ride the bus for free?

The OLLI bus shelter is at the southwest corner of the OLLI parking lot (behind the Natural History van), and the northbound bus appears twice per hour. After 11 AM weekdays, the times are 8 minutes and 38 minutes past each hour (the bus might be late but won't be early on timed runs).  Although the i-card allows unlimited rides on all MTD buses, even that isn't necessary on this one (the "Hopper" buses for UI folks are "hop-on/off" and don't require IDs).

For southbound return buses, riders must walk two blocks north to the Transit Plaza at the Illini Union Book Store. The YellowHopper bus will loop around south of OLLI before returning to our bus shelter. An alternative is to take any Yellow #1 bus to Parking Lot E-14 and walk the one block to OLLI.

The University Library strives to meet the information needs of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute through world class collections, targeted instruction and open events.

As part of the land grant mission, the University Library partners with OLLI to bring members access to the second largest university research library in North America and the largest publicly-supported university research library in the world. As an OLLI member, you are able to check out materials from the library including books and videos, access online databases such PubMed and ArtStor as well as read online newspapers such as the Wall Street Journal and the New York Times. This guide is meant to introduce you to the many resources of the University Library and help you to find your way around in-person and online.

If you have any questions, please contact Ask a Librarian.

Your University accounts

When you become an OLLI member, you are entered into the University system. This means that you will have two separate "accounts" to keep track of:

1. Your i-card, which you can get from the Illini Union Bookstore. Your i-card is used to check out physical library materials such as books and videos. You will need to create an online account by connecting the "Library" number on your i-card with login information of your choosing: This will allow you to request books to be sent to a library (e.g. Prairie Research Institute or Vet MEd) or to the OLLI Research Park address for pickup. Please see OLLI for more details about how to get your i-card.

2. Your NetID and password, that is managed by CITES. Your NetID and password are used to view online resources such as newspapers and magazines. Please see OLLI for more details about how to get your NetID and password. PLEASE NOTE: If you need to reset your CITES account password for any reason, please contact CITES directly at (FYI - the Library cannot help you with your NetID and password.)

When you join OLLI, you will get a letter that helps you with all of these "accounts."

Please contact the OLLI office if you have any questions. The University Library does not manage any of these accounts, except for the Library number located on your i-card.

If you have questions about your library account, please call Central Access Services at 217-333-8400.
