Welcome

Welcome to the University of Illinois Music Library.

This guide is divided into sections, with each tab at the top covering a different topic. Information for accessing specific course materials (readings and listening) assigned by your professor is available under the "Course Materials" tab.

To go beyond the assigned readings and listening (for instance, for a class project or a paper), start with the "Recommended Reading" tab and work your way to the right.

A basic outline of the research process:

  1. Read the listed Grove articles to put your subject in context, to get topic ideas, and to view the bibliographies at the end of each article.
  2. Look at the Recommended Readings list and read items relevant to your topic; these may be in addition to readings suggested by your professor.
  3. Search the Library catalog to find printed music, recordings, and literature about music.
  4. Use the "Journal Articles" tab to help you learn how to find articles on specific pieces or topics.

If all you need is to locate printed music or recordings of string chamber music, please see the "Searching the Library Catalog" tab.

If you need any help with your research, please don't hesitate to come in and ask, or email me.

We look forward to seeing you in the Library.
